Dementia Care
One of the most common feelings amongst friends and relatives of someone living with dementia is losing the person you love. Similarly, dementia often creates high levels of confusion, anxiety and stress for the person. At Innisfree our programme aims to minimize this anxiety and stress and promote a sense of independence and well-being.
Accepting that no 2 people are the same, we begin by gathering as much background information to create a clear picture of interests, hobbies and motivators. This is then incorporated into their care plan and used to develop a more rewarding and fulfilling daily life in the home. In addition, we have found that the most fulfilling life for people with dementia is founded on a set of core principles which include:
Creating a familiar, home from home like feel including personalized items, memory boxes etc.
Providing a well trained team of care staff who understand the nature of dementia and how best to support people who are living with dementia.
Encouraging independence and enabling freedom of choice.
Supporting individual skills and interests including activities such as gardening, baking, pet care, exercise etc.
Promoting daily stimulation through activities such as music, reminiscence, life stories, rummage boxes, games etc.
Providing a comfortable and safe environment, both inside and out, where residents can walk freely and easily and explore.
Life at Innisfree is based very much on these core principles and in so doing, offers an environment where those living with dementia can lead a relaxed and fulfilling life under the expert and sensitive guidance of our care team, whilst friends and relatives can enjoy quality time spent with their loved ones in the knowledge that they are safe and well cared for.
